About This Resume

Sales managers are a numbers-first crowd. In fact, many skip straight to your results before they read your job titles, and they trust those results only when the context is there. Your resume has to show what you sold, who bought it, the target you had and how you did against the rest of the team. Numbers without context mean little.

The first things a hiring manager checks are quota attainment, deal size and the length of the sales cycle, because those tell them whether your experience matches the job they are filling. Next come the habits behind the numbers: how many calls or visits you make, how you build a pipeline and which customer relationship management (CRM) software you use. Rankings help as well. "Ranked 2nd of 14 reps in 2025" tells the reader how good your year really was.

What to Include

  • Quota attainment for each year, shown as a percentage of target along with the target itself
  • Territory, customer type and average deal size, so the reader can compare them with their own
  • Rankings against other reps, sales awards and promotions
  • New accounts opened, renewals kept and the largest deal you closed yourself
  • Pipeline habits, such as calls, meetings or site visits per week and where your leads come from
  • The CRM and sales tools you use every day, named as the posting names them
  • Licenses the job requires, such as a state insurance license for insurance sales

Tips for Your Sales Resume

  • Put a number in most bullets and give each one context, such as quota, rank, territory size or time period. A figure like $900,000 in sales means little until the reader knows the target.
  • Show more than one year. Steady results over three or four years say more than one great year, and managers look for the pattern.
  • Explain your buyer and sales cycle. Selling to school districts over six months is a different job from selling phones in a store, and the reader needs to know which one you did.
  • If you missed quota one year, you do not need to hide it. Give the reason, such as a new territory, or lead with your rank for that year.
  • List only figures you can back up. Interviewers often ask for ranking reports or commission statements, so keep copies.
  • Name your tools. Most sales postings name a CRM, and matching it helps application software pick up your resume.
  • Keep awards short: the award name, the year and how many reps were eligible, if you know it.
