Athletic Facilities Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is technical and professional work involving the
coordination of all support groups for all athletic department
sponsored sports and programs, and all special projects
involving construction and/or renovation of athletic department
facilities.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
coordinating support groups, supervising and inspecting
construction projects, and establishing and maintaining
budgetary guidelines. Work requires close interaction with
coaches, department heads, media representatives, contractors,
subordinates, and other appropriate personnel. Duties are
performed with considerable independence within specific
parameters under the general supervision of the athletic
director's office. Work is reviewed in progress and upon
completion by conferences and inspections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates all support groups for all athletic department
sponsored sports and programs.
Preplans all stages of media sports coverage.
Coordinates physical plant departments, security personnel,
telephone companies, concessions vendors, ticket takers,
visiting schools, bands, and special program groups.
Establishes work schedules to meet sports program deadlines.
Coordinates support groups to insure that all programs are
carried out safely, completely, and on time.
Establishes maintenance and work schedules for all indoor and
outdoor athletic department facilities.
Serves as turf grass specialist.
Coordinates all special projects involving construction and/or
renovation from preliminary design through actual usage of the
facility.
Supervises ongoing construction projects.
Serves as departmental inspector for special building and
construction projects.
Establishes and maintains annual facilities budgets.
Employs and dismisses subordinate personnel.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school
supplemented by college level course work in building
construction and design and turf management supplemented by
considerable experience related to this class of work; or an
equivalent combination of training and experience. Commercial
Pesticide Applicator's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials,
tools, and equipment used in the construction and/or maintenance
of athletic facilities.
Considerable knowledge of procedures necessary to coordinate
support groups for athletic department sponsored sports events.
Considerable knowledge of turf care management, practices,
procedures, and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of budget development and implementation and
cost control procedures.
Thorough knowledge of mechanical design, design drafting, basic
engineering and construction practices, and materials cost
management.
Thorough knowledge of techniques of scheduling and control of
maintenance and work schedules.
Thorough knowledge of personnel recruitment and dismissal
procedures.
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to recognize current and potential problems in new and
existing facility construction and initiate corrective
procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
