A resume is an essential document to market your qualifications and skills to potential employers. It often serves as the first contact with the employer. So avoid any mistake, do the right thing only. Below are a few tips for you to create a good resume.

  • Keep your resume SIMPLE. Use white space to make your resume logically clearly and easy to read. Never ever write a resume as a passage.

  • Be CONCISE. Resume is an overview of your background and experience. Therefore, it is not necessary to detail every assignment you were given. Highlight the jobs that sharpened your skills or demonstrated your potential. The length of a resume should not be more than one page. If you have much to say, choose the most important part.

  • Try to be JOB SPECIFIC. It is always a good idea to tailor your resume to the need of the potential employer. If you are applying to a sales position, make sure to emphasize the experience that demonstrate your communicational skills. Writing a resume is more than just including all information regarding experience and education on paper, resume which is created for specific job position will provide significant advantage over other applicants.

  • If you do not send the resume in person, be sure to include a cover letter that states your job objective if not explained in the resume.

  • Avoid creating a GENERAL RESUME for all jobs. Rather, modify it according to the job description of any potential position.

Resume Writing Tips For Recent Graduates

  • Expand your experience by covering all positions (paid and non-paid) such as co-op, summer internships, academic projects, volunteer engagements. Be sure to describe them in a simple, concise, and logical manner.

  • Emphasize on the experience that is most related to the job you are applying to.

  • Also list any scholarships, awards, and honors you obtained during the past years.

  • Demonstrate your passion, dedication and clear career goals.

  • Include your academic scores (GPA) if it is over 3.0.

Resume Writing Tips For Experienced Professional

  • Emphasize on your resume and focus your two most recent jobs given that they are relevant.

  • Be sure to use action verbs. Use passion words, such as motivated, well-balanced, etc.

  • If you have substantial professional experience, consider using a second page.
