Architect Duties
SUMMARY
Performs professional architectural work by performing in-house
design of projects and/or managing university related projects
from inception through construction. This is administrative and
professional work providing leadership to the project and the
project design team consisting of architects, engineers and
designers. This position acts as the liaison between the design
team and University departments and faculty.
This employee is responsible for supervising and participating
in preliminary studies and estimates of proposed building
projects, and in the design and preparation of complete
alteration and repair plans for existing buildings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and prepares construction drawings and specifications of
project.
Manages university related projects from inception through
construction.
Develops project budgets.
Assists in the hiring of architectural and engineering
consultants for capital outlay projects. Oversees the
productions of the consultants for accuracy and assurance of
compliance to University standards.
Supervises and reviews the work of architectural and mechanical
designers and other personnel involved in the project.
Coordinates the ordering of materials and equipment for repair
and alteration projects and new construction.
Supervises and participates in the preparation and maintenance
of cost records which are used in preparing cost estimates of
new projects.
Confer with appropriate faculty and administrative personnel
regarding proposed construction and alteration programs and
plans.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major
course work in architecture, structural engineering, and or
experience in professional architectural or engineering work
with emphasis on architectural planning and designing, including
some supervisory work; or any equivalent combination of training
and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of all applicable codes and regulatory agency
guidelines.
Considerable knowledge of the modern principles and practices of
architecture.
Considerable knowledge of construction methods and materials,
and methods of surveying and inspection.
Ability to review, analyze, and make recommendations regarding
designs, plans, and specifications.
Ability to supervise and plan the work of technical and
professional subordinates.
Ability to communicate and effectively establish and maintain
working relationships with university faculty and administrative
personnel.
