Maintenance Dispatcher Duties
SUMMARY
This is highly responsible and detailed clerical work within a
major maintenance division or department. Work involves
distribution of information and messages by direct personal,
written, two-way radio, or telephone contact.
An employee in this class has general responsibility for
receiving, recording, and relaying work orders to appropriate
maintenance sections or crews. Work is performed under general
supervision according to established procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives, records, and distributes work orders to service crews
upon requests for maintenance service or repair work from
University departments.
Records information such as name, department name, type of work
requested or service to be rendered.
Receives and handles verbal and written orders from departments
requesting maintenance service or repair work and relays
requests to appropriate maintenance section.
Relays messages and special instructions to service crews via
two-way radio.
Keeps record of service and maintenance calls and work orders.
Maintains files on all specific, standing work orders and
related information and documents.
Operates standard office equipment such as computers,
typewriters, and copiers.
Assists in compiling reports related to the unit's activities.
May interact with vendors in matters regarding supplies and
materials.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of high school education and considerable experience
in clerical work supplemented with some dispatching experience
preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and
experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of office practices, procedures,
equipment, and standard clerical techniques.
Some knowledge of dispatching methods, techniques, and
practices.
Some knowledge of building maintenance needs and service
requirements.
Some knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and
equipment of the building trades.
Ability to obtain the proper information through verbal,
written, and personal contact.
Ability to analyze situations promptly and to determine proper
course of action.
Ability to deal courteously with University personnel,
maintenance crews, and the general public.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
