Powerline Worker Duties
SUMMARY
This is skilled electrical work at the journeyman level in the
maintenance, repair, and installation of high power transmission
and distribution lines across campus.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
performing maintenance, repair, and installation work on the
electrical distribution system of the university. Work is
performed under supervision of an administrative superior and is
reviewed upon completion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Constructs and maintains high power transmission and
distribution lines.
Installs and repairs transformers.
Installs and maintains underground cables.
Sets poles, frames, and strings primary and secondary wiring.
Makes emergency and other repairs on wires, distribution
equipment, and electrical installation.
Operates fork lifts, crane trucks, and related equipment.
Installs and maintains traffic signals and campus lighting.
May supervise labor crews engaged in trimming trees and setting
poles.
Splices cables and installs squirrel guards and switch gear.
Monitors distribution loads.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school and
considerable experience related to this class of work; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and equipment
used in the installation and maintenance of overhead and
underground electrical distribution systems.
Considerable knowledge of the safety methods, practices, and
techniques required in electrical distribution systems work.
Considerable knowledge of local and state electrical codes. |
