Hvac/Refrigeration Foreman Duties
SUMMARY
Performs supervisory responsibilities for managing all aspects
of the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of air
conditioning, refrigeration, ventilating, and related systems.
This individual is responsible for planning, assigning,
participating in, and supervising the work of air conditioning
and refrigeration mechanics and helpers in the efficient
operation, maintenance, and installation of air conditioning,
refrigeration, and related systems including special purpose
equipment used in university research and classroom
laboratories. Work also includes preparing cost estimates of
repair and installation projects. Assignments are received in
brief form and the employee exercises considerable discretion in
determining work methods and techniques. Work is performed under
general direction, and is periodically reviewed for the
efficient operation of mechanical systems and through
discussions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, assigns, schedules, and supervises the work of skilled
and unskilled workers in maintaining and repairing air
conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems and
equipment; conducts regular inspections of work in progress and
on completion.
Checks periodically on generators, motors, compressors, and
controls; initiates action for the major overhaul of equipment.
Provides technical assistance in the design, installation, and
maintenance of these mechanical systems and equipment.
Studies developments in refrigerants, equipment, and practices
and utilizes findings in the installation and maintenance of
equipment.
Recruits and trains personnel in the safe operation of equipment
and tools.
Establishes and enforce safety regulations, work performance
standards, rules and working conditions.
Prepares work reports; maintains stock of replacement and repair
parts, material, and supplies; prepares requisitions for
supplies, parts, and equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; 5 years of related experience
including supervisory or lead experience and considerable
experience in the operation, maintenance, and installation of
air conditioning, refrigeration, and related systems or any
equivalent combination of training and experience. Excellent
communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment,
materials and tools in the field of air conditioning,
refrigeration, and related systems.
Considerable knowledge of mechanical maintenance, repair, and
systems installation.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled workers.
Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, drawings, and
blue prints of machinery and mechanical equipment.
Ability to estimate labor and material costs and to assist in
planning projects.
Ability to maintain labor and material records and prepare
reports.
Skill in diagnosing mechanical defects in air conditioning,
refrigeration, and related equipment and systems.
Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety
precautions of the work.
Ability to communicate and coordinate with superiors,
subordinates, vendors and university personnel. |
