Engineering Aide Duties
SUMMARY
This is sub-professional engineering survey work.
Work involves performing tasks which require the use of a
transit and level and related instruments necessary to perform
accurate location surveys and construction alignments. Employees
exercise judgement based on prior knowledge as to methods used.
Work assignments are discussed with a superior and reviewed
during and at the completion of projects for desired end
results. Supervision is exercised over subordinate employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates engineer's transit and level on location surveys and on
construction operations to establish alignment; gives elevation
for grade and slope stakes; takes cross sections; runs drainage
areas and profile levels; sets bench marks and stakes for
construction.
Maintains field notes; calculates curves; drafts simple maps,
sketches, and drawings from field notes.
Studies and reviews plans for grading and construction projects.
Supervises the setting of stakes, chaining, rodding, and serves
as chief of party.
Accepts responsibility for and maintenance of survey equipment;
checks calibrations.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and some experience in the
construction field with survey work; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of engineering practices as related to
surveying and staking.
Considerable knowledge of the operations and maintenance of the
transit and level and related instruments.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and
specifications; make moderately difficult computations.
Ability to perform drafting and maintain field notes.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others and maintain
effective working relationships. |
