Cad Specialist Duties
SUMMARY
This is skilled CAD (Computer Aided Design) system work in the
preparation of engineering drawings. Work of this class requires
the application of engineering, manual drafting, and
computer-based drafting skills and knowledge in preparing site,
mechanical, architectural, and electrical drawings. Employees
normally work from rough sketches and outlines, models or oral
instructions, and are expected to work out details on a CAD
System in completing drafting assignments. Although the emphasis
of work is on engineering drawings, employees may occasionally
undertake field assignments related to the area of work, such as
participating in engineering field surveys. Employees in this
class work with much independence in carrying out the
assignments, although technical advise and assistance is
available when needed. Work is reviewed by periodic checks of
progress and by evaluation of completed assignments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares engineering drawings manually and on CAD System, which
may involve limited design, to establish complete and accurate
data necessary in building and renovation of classroom, office,
laboratory, and research facilities.
Prepares detailed drawings of building alterations and additions
including plans, sections, and elevations.
Gathers supporting data and prepares detailed maps of
institutional property which show dimensions and specifications
of building, water lines, sewers, drains, and related
information.
Makes pictorial and isometric drawings for reports; plots charts
and curves from data.
Prepares detailed layout, assembly, and working drawings; files
and indexes drawings.
Participates in making field surveys, determining locations and
elevations for drawings.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in engineering drafting with emphasis on CAD System,
including some experience in the field of assignment, and
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, supplemented by
advanced course work in engineering drafting; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the terminology, methods, practices, and techniques
of engineering drafting on CAD Systems, especially AUTOCAD.
Knowledge of mathematics as applied to engineering principles of
the field of assignments.
Knowledge of software systems used to support CAD operation,
including MS DOS and Xenix.
Knowledge of electronic and CAD supporting computer hardware.
Skill in drafting engineering plans of more than ordinary
complexity both manually and using CAD System.
Ability to prepare complex schematic drawings from rough
sketches or oral instructions.
Ability to do limited design work in the field of assignment. |
