Brick Mason Duties
SUMMARY
This is manual work at the journeyman level in the brick masonry
trade.
Work involves the building and repair of structures of brick,
tile, stone, and similar materials. Work involves supervision of
helpers in the performance of trade tasks. Written and oral
assignments are received from a supervisor who inspects
completed work for compliance with specifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lays out masonry jobs and supervises the work of helpers engaged
in masonry and allied building trades operations.
Performs brick laying, stone setting, tile setting, and cement
finishing work.
Points up and repairs masonry in existing structures.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school and
experience at the journeyman level in the masonry trade; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and
practices used in the masonry and cement finishing trades.
Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of
the trade.
Ability to supervise the work of semi-skilled helpers engaged in
stone and brick masonry, tile setting, and cement finishing.
Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and drawings.
Skill in the care and use of masonry and cement finishing tools.
