Production Coordinator Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible coordination and production scheduling
of work within the Printing Department to assure good
customer relationships, smooth work flow. and to expedite
the production of customer orders.
Work involves assisting the Print Shop Manager, Assistant
Manager, and production personnel departmental line foreman)
in determining the specifications, established priorities,
and availability of production personnel, materials,
machinery, and equipment. Work also involves liaison work
between the customer and the Printing Department, advising
of printing techniques, processing, and providing sample
layouts (mock-ups), estimating production costs, and
arrangement of deadlines. This employee exercises discretion
and judgment within established policies and procedures.
This staff position has no supervisory responsibilities.
However, it is necessary that this employee have close
contact with the production foreman to assure that the
specifications outlined on customers' orders are filled.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with customer from start to finish of production,
provides mock layouts.
Estimates labor and material costs of printing pamphlets,
periodicals, and other printed materials.
Sets and makes sure production deadlines are met.
Examines specifications with customer and production
personnel including sketches or sample layouts, considering
such factors as ink, type, size and number of sheets/pages
(paper-stock requirements).
Distributes work orders; schedules time to production
department denoting number, type and proposed completion
dates of unit it be produced. Responsible for determining
progress of work and provides information on changes that
need to be made.
Compiles reports on progress of work, or machine and
equipment failure that may later production schedules.
Confers with customer, keeping the customer advised as to
the status of progress of the project.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school/GED plus four years of print
shop experience or graduation from accredited college or
university in Printing Management and/or any combination of
training, education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to meet and deal with customers on a regular basis,
proving layouts, technical assistance, and the best
production methods to assure quality of production.
Considerable working knowledge of print shop policies and
procedures, and printing processes such as typesetting,
photo-layout, pressroom and bindery operations.
Ability to estimate labor and material cost; schedule such
specific phases to meet said deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain effective, tactful, and
courteous working relations with employees, faculty members,
students, and the general public.
