Graphics Technician Duties
SUMMARY
This is highly technical and independent work in the design
and preparation of printed, drawn, and photographed
materials for duplicating.
An employee allocated to this class of work performs highly
independent, technical duties and/or supervises and
participates in the reproduction of graphic materials. Work
is performed independently under the general direction of an
administrative superior.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises the work of graphics personnel in the preparation
of materials for reproduction.
Assists in the training of new personnel.
Inspects work in progress and finished materials to see that
quality, quantity, and printability standards are in
compliance.
Maintains records and files of work performed; computes
costs of reproduction jobs.
Maintains a supply of chemicals, films, and other necessary
items used in reproduction of materials.
Mixes and prepares chemicals.
Performs all phases of graphics work including negative
stripping, plate making, as well as the design, layout,
arrangement, and sketching of materials for reproduction.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by
courses in printing and graphic arts; and considerable
technical experience in graphic arts work; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of printing, reproduction, and graphic
display techniques.
Thorough knowledge of printing shop and photographic
equipment.
Ability to plan, design, and layout graphic art pieces.
Ability to train and direct the work of a small staff
engaged in providing printing service.
Skill in lettering, drawing, and preparing a wide variety of
materials for reproduction.
