Health Educator Duties
SUMMARY
This is highly responsible work coordinating a comprehensive
health education program for the university community. An
employee in this class plans, directs, and evaluates a variety
of program areas. Duties require considerable independence of
action in initiating and implementing objectives. Work is
reviewed through conferences, reports, and general
effectiveness.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Proposes a variety of components of a comprehensive health
education program, based on defined needs and interests of the
target community.
Directs the implementation and evaluation of health education
programs.
Coordinates program activities with other agencies and
organizations of the campus or community.
Recruits, trains, and supervises program interns, staff, and
volunteers.
Develops methods to promote positive health behavior through the
use of pamphlets, films, radio, television, and newspaper
coverage.
Provides instructional assistance as requested to campus and
community organizations.
Prepares activity reports and programmatic proposals to support
or justify the project.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an
advanced degree in health education or a related field; and some
experience working with a health education program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of developing and implementing a health
care education program.
Knowledge of the target community.
Skill in planning a variety of health programs.
Skill in involving potential program users in the program
activities.
Ability to identify health education needs and to develop
appropriate programs to meet those needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, staff, other employees, and the
community at large.
