Radiation Safety Specialist Duties
SUMMARY
The position provides assistance and technical support for the
radiation safety program to ensure compliance with university,
state, and federal regulations such that personnel and
environmental radiation exposure is maintained as low as
reasonably achievable. No supervisory responsibility. Activities
and decisions are varied in nature, requiring the solving of
common and unusual problems. The supervisor is consulted for
clarification of policies only where needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the development and implementation of safety
training programs.
Manages the Dosimeter Program.
Orders and inventories supplies, and equipment.
Collects, analyzes, and documents analysis results.
Enrolls personnel into dosimeter program.
Monitors dosage and/or ordering capabilities of units.
Maintains and monitors reports, (e.g. compliance).
Disseminates compliance information, to biological hazardous
material users.
Advises users concerning policies and the safe handling of
biological hazardous materials.
Provides guidance and assistance to safety technicians in the
performance of their duties.
May be responsible for the development and maintenance of
computer programs and

Provides assistance and technical support regarding problems and
development of safety program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree with minimum of 4 years experience or
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years of college
course work (in what area) and minimum of 6 years experience.
License: Driver's license required. May require related safety
course (e.g. Radiation Safety Short Course, Radiation Safety
Officer course)
