Development Coordinator Duties
SUMMARY
This is professional and supervisory work engaged in
fund-raising activities for a university college.
An employee allocated to this class plans, implements, and
coordinates a variety of fund-raising and promotional campaigns
designed to increase support for a particular college within a
university. Duties are performed under the general supervision
of an administrative superior and is reviewed through the
observation of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs, implements, and maintains alumni development programs
and procedures for the college.
Supervises, coordinates, and participates in the development of
proposals, publicity releases, solicitation campaigns, and
progress reports.
Directs and participates in presentations to alumni supporters
and college administrators.
Serves with administrative planning groups as determined by the
dean of the college.
Attends all meetings with the university's fund-raising staff
and works closely with annual fund, telethon, and other
solicitation committees, as well as with the College Alumni
Association.
Attends fund-raising activities at locations throughout the
state and coordinates all fund-raising activities with the
university's development office.
Provides leadership in planning and organizing support at all
levels of giving.
Participates in establishing alumni development program
objectives and in maintaining college files regarding programs
and constituency support.
Schedules, plans, and coordinates on and off campus alumni
meetings, including special events for alumni weekend.
Prepares and publishes periodic college publications including
alumni newsletters and an annual report for alumni.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major
course work in an appropriate curriculum and considerable
experience in public relations, alumni relations or development
work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principals and techniques of alumni
development programs.
Considerable knowledge of fund-raising and promotional
campaigns.
Considerable knowledge of public relations practices and
techniques.
Knowledge of financial planning principals and techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing,
and work with a wide variety of publics.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with alumni, administrators, and college
supporters.
Ability to supervise the activities of a staff engaged in alumni
development and fund-raising activities.
