Cashier Clerk Duties
SUMMARY
This is general clerical work in receiving cash or meal tickets
from customers.
The major responsibility of these employees is for the rapid and
accurate completion of transactions necessary to receiving and
disbursing cash. Emphasis is placed on accuracy in handling cash
as well as on performance of clerical or other incidental duties
related to the job. Accuracy of work is verified through the
comparison of cash with receipt stubs, cash register receipts,
or other controls, Work is performed according to established
and well defined procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives cash or meal ticket receipts in the payment of bills,
purchases, admissions to events or other sources.
Verifies negotiability and cashes checks and processes refunds
for returned items.
Checks food trays and determines food costs.
Balances cash on hand against receipts; may prepare deposits;
reconciles cash statements.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described
herein.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by
experience as a teller or cashier in handling and accounting for
large sums of money; or any equivalent combination of training
and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience in the use of cash registers, adding machines, etc.
Considerable knowledge of the methods of handling cash.
Ability to meet and serve the public tactfully and effectively
and maintain effective working relationships with other
employees.
Ability to make accurate and rapid arithmetical calculations.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral or written
instructions.
