Lab Animal Care Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is the fourth in a series of seven titles for positions
involving laboratory animal research (these include Research
Animal Resources positions within the college of Arts &
Sciences, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and the
college of Veterinary Medicine). The Laboratory Animal Care
series is identified by a predominant amount of time spent on
the care of University-owned animals used in a research setting
or for a specific research project.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May perform same duties as Laboratory Animal Care Technician
III.
Act as lead worker.
Perform on-call and/or weekend duties.
Train new hires.
Interact with (mostly internal) clientele.
May act as back up to Facilities Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates degree, 4 years experience; or American Association
of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - Laboratory Animal
Technician (LAT) certified; or High School degree, 5 years
experience; OR Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certified;
Masters degree preferred.
American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) -
Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification required;
Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification preferred
(current registry). Valid GA State Driver's License may be
required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of animal care, sample collection &
analytical procedures.
Ability to supervise and instruct peers & students. |
