Animal Facilities Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible, professional work in planning and
supervising the operation of a large animal caretaking program
designed to care for laboratory animals.
An employee allocated to this class of work supervises animal
caretakers in the care and management of research animals and
facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a
technical superior and is reviewed by observation of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of a large animal
caretaking facility engaged in the care and management of
laboratory animals.
Coordinates animal ordering service between vendors and
facilities.
Orders and disperses food and bedding materials.
Prepares and maintains inventory records and initiates purchase
orders to replenish materials and supplies.
Supervises and coordinates facility personnel in administering
routine medical treatments and recording and processing research
information.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major
course work in animal science and some experience related to
this class of work; or any equivalent combination of training
and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the techniques involved in handling,
observing, and caring for animals.
Considerable knowledge of the diet, physiology, and physical
characteristics of all types of laboratory animals.
Knowledge of management principles and practices as applied to
laboratory facilities.
Ability to supervise the work of others. |
