Feed Plant Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible technical and supervisory work in directing
farm workers in the operation of a research feed processing
plant.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
supervising the processing of poultry, swine, and cattle feeds
for experimental animals. Work includes warehousing, inventory
maintenance, mixing of feed ingredients, record keeping and
report writing, maintenance of all feed milling equipment, and
providing technical assistance in feed technology to research
faculty and students. Work is performed independently and
reviewed by an administrative superior and research faculty
members through observation of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises and trains employees in the total operation of a
University feed processing plant.
Plans and administers the budget of the feed mill operation.
Prepares and submits all reports required by State and Federal
Officials in compliance with Federal Drug Administration
policies.
Develops procedures for improving efficiency and precision in
preparing experimental diets and makes recommendations on new
equipment for optimum use in feed processing plants.
Maintains all feed ingredients and supplement inventories.
Assists in the manufacture and mixing of experimental feeds.
Provides technical assistance to research faculty and students
concerning a wide range of feed technology and nutrition
research.
Assists in the maintenance of all feed processing mill
equipment.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university in an
appropriate curriculum and considerable experience in general
farming and feed mill operations; or any equivalent combination
of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and
equipment used in a feed processing operation.
Thorough knowledge of feed technology and research methodology.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety
precautions involved in a feed processing plant.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with
faculty, clients, and subordinate personnel.
Ability to train and supervise others.
Ability to maintain an effective records system and to prepare
and maintain budgets.
