Farm Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is supervisory farm work in general farm activities or
advanced farming work of comparable responsibility.
Work involves supervising farm workers engaged in routine farm
tasks and advanced farming work requiring skill in the operation
of such complicated farm machinery as combines, forage
harvesters, corn pickers, and hay balers. Work requires the
application of skill and judgement while engaged in plowing,
planting, cultivating, and harvesting activities. The employees
receive guidance and direction from a superior through
conferences and verbal instructions of operations within their
jurisdiction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises farm workers who perform routine manual farm chores.
Operates complicated farm machinery such as combines, forage
harvesters, corn pickers, and hay balers, while planting,
cultivating, or harvesting crops.
Performs minor maintenance work on farm machinery and equipment
as needed.
Supervises and participates in general repairs and painting of
buildings, fences, barns, and sheds.
Trains new employees in the operation of the more complicated
farm machinery.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school; and
considerable practical experience in general farming work,
including some supervisory experience and experience in the
operation of farm machinery; or any equivalent combination of
training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of practical farm operations such as
plowing, planting, cultivating, and harvesting various types of
farm corps.
Considerable knowledge of the kinds of farm equipment and tools
and their uses.
Ability to supervise farm employees engaged in routine farm
tasks.
Ability to operate farm machinery and to make routine mechanical
repairs.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
Ability to work long hours outdoors at hard manual labor under
varied climatic conditions.
