Student Affairs Specialist Duties
SUMMARY
This is the first in a series of four classification that
represent specialized activities within the Vice President of
Student Affairs. These positions may have university wide
jurisdiction. This position has no supervisory responsibilities
and provides input regarding departmental decisions and in the
development of objectives, policies and procedures. Counsels and
confers with students and prospective students within a program
of study or regarding a student service; provides program and
departmental procedures, policies, goals and objectives,
technical guidance and problem resolution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Counsels and confers with students providing program procedures,
policies, goals and objectives, technical guidance and problem
resolution.
Directs students to appropriate program advisor for further
program guidance.
Coordinates and administers student support to enrolled and
prospective students, such as departmental services, course
registration, graduation processing, petitioning, withdrawals,
program documentation, computer accounts, information sessions,
receptions, and student orientation.
Assists in the identification of target groups in consultation
with academic or student affairs departments for student
recruitment on and off campus; makes visits to appropriate
groups.
Assists in the collaboration with other colleges, student
affairs departments, and central university offices to ensure a
coordinated approach to student recruitment and retention
activities.
Initiates, develops, and sustains strong positive relations with
program coordinators and departmental leadership to ensure
achievement of the mission and goals of the department and
college.
Assists with review of college student support initiatives to
ensure student, faculty and administration needs are met.
Assists with the development of goals and objectives for the
student support unit, in support of college or departmental
strategic plans.
Maintains student records on database, creates and provides
reports. Provides contact point for enrolled and prospective
student information.
Assists with accreditation review; coordinates logistics,
scheduling and related matters.
Develops or assists in the development and production of program
advertising, promotional flyers and related recruitment
initiatives.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, professional
development seminars and other student support related meetings.
Implements student recruitment initiatives and participates in
the evaluation of such initiatives.
Assists in providing cross training to program staff as
required.
Liaison with student organizations and alumni.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND
one year of administrative and appropriate program experience;
OR, five years of progressively responsible administrative and
appropriate program experience; OR any equivalent combination of
experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge,
skills and abilities have been achieved.
