International Student&Scholar Advisor Duties
SUMMARY
50% of time advising and processing immigration related
requests, 25% supervision of junior advisor and graduate
assistant, 25% other administrative tasks including maintenance
of policies, conducting presentations and revising educational
materials, and others areas as required by Associate Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary advisor for F and J visa categories (support the Junior
advisor in difficult/complex advising issues and situations
related to immigration, insurance, or academic matters)
Supervise, train, and provide guidance to junior advisor in
relation to immigration regulations, university policies, and
immigration services policies and procedures
Lead the development and planning of outreach and educational
initiatives for F/J student population (apx. 1200) including
weekly employment workshops, insurance sessions, alphabet soup,
travel signature day, and other programs that are offered
Coordinate semesterly orientation check-in and work with ISL to
provide comprehensive immigration programming at orientation
Develop policies that inform the documentation coordinator of
maintenance of F/J student record keeping, correspondence
schedules and formats, and maintenance of i1440 database
Serve as J student advisor (ARO) to both degree seeking and
non-degree exchange visitors, including coordinating procedures
and activities of J students who are sponsored by Fulbright,
IREX, OSI, U.S. Department of State, and other internal UGA
departments or exchange agreements
Edit the section of the immigration services web site specific
to F/J students to ensure clarity of current immigration
information and university policies
Coordinate the changes in educational materials, brochures, and
handouts to ensure accuracy and up to date information
Ensure University of Georgia compliance with SEVIS and
immigration requirements by maintaining a clear understanding of
regulatory changes and advising office policies accordingly
Oversee the UGA mandatory insurance policy system to ensure
efficiency and accuracy in regards to the junior advisor's
management of daily insurance tasks
Supervise a 1/3 time graduate assistant and provide projects and
activities that meet her educational objectives
Oversee the graduate assistant in her role advising the
International Family Association
Fully participate and assist with developing a plan for
immigration services participation in International Education
Week
Serve as the primary liaison for faculty, human resources, other
campus departments as well as external parties including US
Citizenship and Immigration Services, Social Security, and the
Department of State as needed
Conduct regular assessment of F/J immigration services and
develop initiatives to improve efficiency and satisfaction based
on responses
Assist in the reporting of data in annual Open Door reports and
determining the updated cost of living and tuition figures to be
used to issue I-20 and DS-2019 documents
Report directly to the Associate Director of Immigration
Services for direction with regards to immigration services and
assist with the implementation of programs, policies, and
objectives within the service area.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in related field, i.e. Higher Ed.
Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, etc.
2 years experience working with federal immigration regulations
in a university setting including experience with SEVIS.
Good computer skills using PC platform and Windows, Microsoft
Office software. I-1440 a plus
Excellent analytical, communication and writing skills. |
