Academic Advisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible administrative and degree program support
within a school or college involved in implementing a wide
variety of degree program requirements. This is the first in a
series of four classifications, and provides academic support by
working with students and records. Work is performed under
general supervision, has no supervisory duties, and work is
reviewed by observation of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advises students providing academic procedures, policies, goals,
and objectives, guidance, and problem resolution;
Administers student support to enrolled and prospective
students, such as degree program advisement, graduation
processing, petitioning, withdrawals, information sessions,
receptions, and student orientations;
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of rules and policies effecting
specific degree programs;
Answers questions regarding individual schools and colleges, as
well as the University.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area
of assignment and one year of administrative and appropriate
program experience; OR five years of progressively responsible
work in this area; OR any combination of experience and/or
education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities
have been achieved.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the University's rules, regulations,
policies and procedures pertaining to a specific degree program;
Effective problem solving and interpersonal communication
skills;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships;
Knowledge and competence in computer skills;
Ability to interpret policies and procedures and effectively
communicate these to students and faculty. |
