Research Engineer Duties
SUMMARY
This is professional work in the field of agricultural
engineering research.
Work involves research, development, and evaluation of design
criteria, methods, processes, instrumentation, and equipment for
water management, energy conservation, environmental structures,
waste management, and the production, harvesting, processing,
and handling of food and fiber.
Methods of fulfilling responsibilities are usually at discretion
of employee with a professional superior available for
consultation and assistance. Employees allocated to this class
of work may supervise the work of an Agricultural Research
Engineer I. Work is performed under general direction of the
professional superior and is reviewed through periodic
conferences and upon completion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, organizes, and conducts research on conservation of
energy in crop drying, irrigation of horticultural crops or any
other appropriate area of agricultural engineering.
Supervises and participates in literature searches.
Prepares budget estimates and recommendations for equipment and
supplies.
Plans and directs work of research technicians and other staff.
Develops procedures, designs new or adapts existing facilities
and equipment to carry out specific studies.
Supervises the collection of experimental data.
Evaluates experimental data by statistical methods.
Publishes scientific reports, articles, and bulletins on
research results.
Assists in developing project funding proposals and project
status reports.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
master of science degree in agricultural engineering and some
experience in planning and conducting research; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of engineering research methods, techniques,
and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, the physical
sciences, and the biological sciences as related to engineering.
Ability to design, organize, and implement creative and
innovative agricultural engineering research programs.
Ability to effectively plan, organize, and direct the work of
subordinate personnel.
Ability to prepare reports and publications of research results.
Ability to speak before various groups.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with other research scientists, administrative
personnel, and fellow employees. |
