Maintenance Foreman Duties
SUMMARY
This is skilled supervisory work in the general maintenance and
repair of varied facilities, buildings, and grounds.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
supervising the general maintenance and repair of University
facilities and furnishings involving a variety of building
trades. Work includes the supervision of skilled tradesmen,
helpers, and laborers. Instructions as to what work should be
done are received daily or at any time when emergency repairs
have to be done. Completed work is subject to inspection by an
administrative superior.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in building
small structures or in altering, repairing, and painting
existing buildings; plans, lays out, and assigns duties to
subordinates; checks periodically to assure established
specifications are met.
Supervises the maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating,
electrical, mechanical, and other plant equipment.
Supervises the maintenance of grounds and outside structures.
Prepares work reports concerning types of repairs made,
materials used, and cost of completed work assignments;
purchases parts, tools, and supplies. Maintains inventory of
materials and equipment.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school and considerable
experience in the building trades, including responsible
supervisory experience in building maintenance and repair work;
or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of building maintenance and construction
practices and methods.
Considerable knowledge of standard skilled trade operations and
repair methods.
Considerable knowledge of the materials and tools used in
landscaping and building work.
Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled and semi-skilled
workers.
Ability to read and interpret blue-prints, sketches, and
detailed drawings.
Ability to inspect building maintenance and construction work
for adherence to plans, specifications, and work orders.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with subordinates and other employees. |
