Athletic Facilities Foreman Duties
SUMMARY
This is supervisory work in directing unskilled and semiskilled
workers in the maintenance and repair of athletic facilities on
the campus.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
planning, assigning, and supervising the operations of staff and
equipment in the maintenance and operation of the stadium or
swimming pool, and related athletic facilities. The work
requires special skills in the care of turf fields and other
playing surfaces. Work includes responsibility for the hiring
and discharging of temporary employees according to seasonal
requirements and within specified guidelines. Work is performed
with considerable independence under general supervision and is
reviewed by conferences and inspection.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, assigns, and directs the work of a number of unskilled
and semiskilled employees engaged in maintenance and repair work
on football fields, gymnasiums, swimming pool, baseball
diamonds, running tracks, tennis courts, spectator
accommodations, and other athletic facilities.
Organizes and supervises the marking of fields and intramural
areas, and the provision of equipment for athletic events.
Supervises setting up the Coliseum or pool for athletic events,
and cleaning up afterwards.
Supervises the maintenance, installation, and repair of athletic
practicing equipment.
Treats swimming pool water; backwashes pool filters; supervises
setting up of floats for swimming meets.
Assists in the packing, transporting (intra campus and to other
colleges and universities), and unpacking of uniforms and
equipment.
Recruits, trains, assigns, and discharges temporary employees
according to seasonal requirements.
Trains regular and full-time employees.
Supervises the operation and servicing of machinery and
equipment used in maintenance work.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school; and
considerable experience in the operation and maintenance of
athletic indoor and outdoor facilities, including some
supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of
training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials,
equipment, and tools used in the maintenance of athletic fields
and other athletic facilities.
Some knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques.
Some knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions
in general labor and maintenance work.
Ability to plan, lay out, and supervise the work of unskilled
and semiskilled workers.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with coaches, department heads, and others
contacted in the course of work. |
