SUMMARY

Performs skilled work in the operation of heavy automotive and construction equipment, often serving as a crew leader overseeing these operations.

Work involves the safe and efficient operation of such heavy construction equipment as bulldozers, graders, trenching machines, cranes, and scrapers in the construction of roads, building sites, and other projects. May be assigned to the operation of trucks and other types of automotive equipment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates graders in road construction and in leveling ground for building sites, performing rough and finish blade work.

Operates excavators, breakers, lazer levels, transit levels, and pipe lazers in all phases of underground utilities.

Operates trenching machines in opening ditches for water and sewer lines.

Operates bulldozers in clearing brush, doing rough leveling work, and backfilling.

Operates cranes in loading and unloading heavy objects and in erecting structures.

Operates scrapers, loaders, tractors, and a variety of other equipment as assigned; operates trucks and tractors.

Services, maintains, and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment.

Performs skilled, unskilled, or semi-skilled manual work at project site, yard, or shop.

Operates graders in road construction and in leveling ground for building sites, performing rough and finish blade work.

Operates scrapers, loaders, tractors, and a variety of other equipment as assigned; operates trucks and tractors.

Aerates and mows fairways; and loads trucks with front-end loader.

Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED and experience in the skilled operation of heavy construction equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Supervisory experience is desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance characteristics of heavy construction equipment.

Considerable knowledge of safety precautions applicable to construction equipment.

Some knowledge of modern techniques and materials used in maintenance and construction.

Ability to interpret blueprints.

Ability to effectively supervise skilled and unskilled workers.

Ability to oversee jobs and ensure they are completed safely and correctly.

Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to construction equipment.

Skill in the operation of construction equipment.

Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance characteristics of heavy construction equipment.

Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
