Fire Safety Manager Duties
SUMMARY
This position manages the Fire Safety Program for university
properties, including statewide research and extension
facilities; assisting the University community in meeting all
fire codes through training and information. Supervises Fire
Safety Inspectors, 1 student worker, and 1 temporary worker.
Participates in discussion/decision of job actions (e.g., new
hires, promotions, demotions, transfers, discipline,
terminations), and determination of salary and salary changes;
has full responsibility for scheduling/assigning work, setting
production goals or job expectations, training, assessing
performance, completing formal performance evaluations, and
coordinating work. Activities and decisions are highly complex.
Significant independent action and judgment are required subject
to University wide policies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the activities of all Fire Safety Inspectors to ensure
University facilities are inspected and comply with fire and
life safety codes.
Acts as liaison with the State Fire Marshal's office and confers
with local officials concerning fire safety issues.
Administers contracts related to the maintenance and
installation of fire extinguishers, halon systems and hood
extinguishing systems.
Submits annual fire safety budget.
Ensures new construction and renovation projects building plans
are in compliance with safety codes and state laws.
Issues and maintains permitting systems.
Provides training in fire prevention and safety, fire drills,
fire extinguishers, dorm safety, etc.
Coordinates fire related emergency operations with local fire
fighting agencies.
Keeps abreast of fire related laws, codes, policies, etc.
Keeps updated listing of fire and life safety codes
deficiencies.
Write reports and update university policies related to fire
issues.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and 3 years experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of fire extinguishers and other related fire
prevention and suppression
equipment. Licenses and Certifications: Driver's license and
Life Safety Code certification required.
