Senior Budget Analyst Duties
SUMMARY
This is the third in a series of four exempt positions within
the University's Budget Office. The person occupying this
position must be able to perform professional level accounting
work in the area of budgets with the University's Budget Office.
Work involves directing and coordinating the activities or
personnel engaged in preparation of budgets by compiling
statements by major classifications reflecting the previous
year's actual expenditures, the current year's actual
expenditures, the current year's budget, and the proposed budget
for the upcoming year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Train and supervise budget analyst positions and student
assistants in the Budget Office.
Review and approve budget amendment/personnel documents
processed by the budget analysts to ensure adherence to
University policies and procedures.
Oversees maintenance of complex computerized record keeping
system.
Reviews proposed budgets with administrative superiors.
Process inter-departmental transfers, central funding
allocations, indirect cost allocations, and state appropriation
amendments for campus units.
Provide assistance to budget analysts in communicating with
department budget representatives to resolve budget issues
related to budget and personnel documents.
Supervise the budget development process for the University.
Verify daily that the budget, payroll, and accounting computer
systems are in balance.
Assist the Assistant Budget Director with special projects.
May perform other tasks upon assignment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related
discipline with five (5) years of professional experience; or
any equivalent combination of education, training, and
experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices as
well as statistical and analytical procedures.
Knowledge of University practices and procedures.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately,
along with skill in using calculators and other such machines.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships and think
logically.
Ability to devise and supervise maintenance of computer systems.
