Vet Medicine Hospital Admin Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible professional and administrative work in the
administration and management of the Veterinary Medicine Hospital.
Work involves controlling hospital expenditures, implementing
approved policies and procedures, and coordinating the procurement
of all non-pharmaceutical supplies. Work requires application of
considerable independence and discretion in the day to day
operations; advice and assistance is provided on unusual problems,
and changes in policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through
consultation, analysis of reports, and observation of results
obtained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Controls expenditures of state, grant, and income funds for the
Hospital and coordinates with college fiscal office for the
preparation of monthly statements for each section.
Coordinates the procurement of non-pharmaceutical supplies as needed
for the operation of all sections of the clinics, including feed,
instruments, laboratory equipment, experimental animals, office
equipment, cars, trucks, and other supplies.
Supervises the billing and collection of fees from clients of the
Large Animal, Small Animal, and Ambulatory Clinics.
Assists the Dean and Assistant to the Dean with preparation of
budget requests for state funds.
Assists faculty members with the fiscal and administrative
procedures of the clinic operations.
Develops plans for improving efficiency and economy of operation of
the Clinic.
Coordinates all work to be accomplished by the Physical Plant and
outside contractors involving the Clinic operations.
Screens, interviews, and hires applicants for non-professional
positions; conducts orientation for all new employees.
Coordinates the preparation of personnel forms, including
appointments, resignations, annual appointments, accident reports,
sick leave and vacation leave, and maintain records of all personnel
on the clinic operation budget.
Coordinates the arrangements for office, laboratory, and animal
space assignments.
Supervises the maintenance and cleanliness of rooms, buildings,
barns, and garage.
Performs related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in
public or business administration with major course work in
management, hospital administration, accounting or a related
subject; and considerable responsible experience related to this
class of work; or any equivalent combination of training and
experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, and operating procedures
of the Vet Med hospital.
Considerable knowledge of management principles, concepts, and
techniques.
Considerable knowledge of modern principles, methods, practices, and
techniques of business administration involved in budgeting,
purchasing, accounting, and organization.
Ability to make work decisions in accordance with administrative
rules, regulations, and policies.
Ability to maintain complex records and prepare reports from various
source documents.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written
instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with other employees and with the public.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to supervise the work of others. |
