Origin: The legal origin of Baltimore
County is not known, but it was in existence by
January 12, 1659/60 when a writ was issued to
the sheriff of the county. The County name was
derived from the name of the Proprietary's
Barony in Ireland in the county of Longford. |

land area and a population density of 1,313.3
per square mile. In the last three decades of
the 1900s its population grew by 21.6%. On the
2000 census form, 98.6% of the population
reported only one race, with 20.1% of these
reporting African-American. The population of
this county is 1.8% Hispanic (of any race). The
average household size is 2.46 persons compared
to an average family size of 3.00 persons.
In 2005 retail trade was the largest of 20
major sectors. It had an average wage per job of
$26,413. Per capita income grew by 25.0% between
1994 and 2004 (adjusted for inflation). |
